Energy is the modern’s world greatest need. As there are more and more advances in technology, this need for energy grows more and more each day. And for centuries, we have depended greatly on oil as the primarily source of energy. At the turn of the century however, as the demand for oil increases, the oil supplied by Arab countries may not be enough to fuel the whole world. The unprecedented increase in demand has also brought about an increase in the price of oil in the world market.
Thus, oil drilling companies like swan energy, have recently made it their passion and commitment to explore new innovations and new possible sources of energy aside from oil in an effort to provide for the escalating world demand for energy.
One energy source that has captured much attention is natural gas. In the 19th century, natural gas was obtained simply as a by-product of oil and during those times since it was not in demand and there was no market for it, this unwanted gas was simply burned off. And it was not until the 21st century that people realized the importance of natural gas. Today, natural gas is extracted along with oil. And now, it is in fact the major source of electricity generation through the use of gas turbines and steam turbines. And with the increasing demand for natural gas especially in countries like the United States, oil and gas companies like Swan Energy are exploring innovative yet challenging sources of natural gas such natural gas from shale and other rock formations that shaped much of the earth’s façade. Other challenging sources also include sour gas, tight gas and coalbed methane. Recent innovations and updates on natural gas drilling are available at http://swanenergyinc.wordpress.com/.
Aside from the natural gas from rock formations, biogas is also being explored as an additional source of gas energy. Its difference from natural gas is that is comes mainly from organic sources, specifically the breakdown of organic matter without oxygen. Biogas can be obtained from swaps, landfills and marshes. It can also be obtained from more domestic sources such as manure, sewage, crops and plant material wastes. And one of its greater advantage is that is a renewable source of energy and is thus eco-friendly. And it can potentially reduce global climate change. Normally, if manure is left to stand and decompose, it produces two gases that may cause climate change: methane and nitrous oxide. So instead of allowing these gases to escape in the atmosphere, these can be utilized instead into energy.
Other sources of renewable energy also being explored are solar, wind and geothermal energy. Energy from rain and tides are also being slowly utilized.
With the prices of oil hiking every day, people are now turning to cheaper and renewable sources of energy like natural gas, biogas and the like. Still, no matter how many new energy sources are discovered, no matter how massive and seemingly limitless it is, but the energy supply might not cope with the exponentially increasing demand. We must do our part. We must help Mother Nature. We must conserve energy. Because, if we don’t the time will come when all the possible energy sources have been exhausted. And without any energy left, our cities may cease to exist – we may cease to exist.
